The two-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Machine Learning and Generative AI, conducted on July 7 and 8, 2023, served as a profound learning platform for academicians and educators. The program was carefully curated, with expert speakers delivering lectures, conducting practical lab sessions, and facilitating hands-on workshops. The FDP aimed to enhance the faculty’s skills and understanding in the fields of Machine Learning (ML) and Generative AI, equipping them to impart knowledge to their students effectively. Day one started with an enlightening session by Rev. Fr. Joe Arun, SJ Director, on ‘AI and Machine Learning and their use in Higher Education’. The presentation showcased the impact and importance of AI in modern learning approaches, emphasizing how AI could reshape education paradigms by tailoring learning styles to individual needs. This was followed by a ‘Supervised Learning Lab Session’ facilitated by Dr. Shyni Carmel Mary and Dr. Kishore Kunal and a session by Dr. M. Ramasubramaniam on ‘Applications of Machine Learning in Academic Research’. Day two was dedicated entirely to Generative AI, one of the most promising fields in artificial intelligence. The day comprised a comprehensive overview of generative models and a hands-on workshop. The highlight was the design thinking session, which showcased how creativity and AI can come together to generate innovative solutions.
