The Centre for Leadership Excellence (CLE) in collaboration with the Dravidian Professionals Forum (DPF) organized a colloquium on “The Dravidian Model: Good for Business and Human Development?” on 2nd December 2022 at Xavier Britto Auditorium, LIBA. Dr. Palanivel Thiagarajan, Minister, Finance and Human Resource Management and Dr. J.Jeyaranjan, Vice Chairman, Planning commission shared their valuable insights in the first session of the colloquium that was moderated by Fr. C. Joe Arun SJ, Director – LIBA. Dr. Palanivel Thiagarajan said that the core of the model is that everybody should have the same rights, opportunities, access, equal social mobility and prospects. Prof. J. Jeyaranjan, said that one of the successes of the Dravidian model is that it has democratised the development process. The speakers for the second session were Prof. Suresh Paul Antony and Mr. A.S.Paneerselvan, moderated by Mr. Dharanidharan Selvam, Executive Co-ordinator, DPF. They debated about trickle – down economics, economic decentralization, different economic models, implications it has for the education sector and how it is a marriage between the state and the markets. Mr. Puhazh Gandhi P, Executive Co-ordinator – DPF, Tamil Nadu, gave the concluding remarks. The focus of the colloquium was also to understand the concepts of social justice, progress through education, and upliftment of people from all walks of life and negate any caste discrimination, discrepancies, and reservation system.
